Revised CPWP Module 1 Examination will be launched in late 2020

The Certified Private Wealth Professional (CPWP) Module 1 Examination and Training was first introduced in 2014. The Private Wealth Management Association (PWMA) and Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) have recently performed a detailed review and decided to revise its current syllabus and expected learning outcomes.

Why revision is required?
To ensure that the syllabus and content of the CPWP Module 1 remain relevant and practical to the daily work of private wealth management (“PWM”) practitioners and reflect the latest development of the PWM sector.

What have been changed?
The revised CPWP Module 1 examination structure remain unchanged which consists of two papers: Paper 1 on Financial Instruments and Paper 2 on Wealth Management. Certain topics have been recategorised, modified or added based on the revised expected learning outcomes.

When is the effective date?
The revised CPWP Module 1 examination is expected to be launched in December 2020 for Paper 1 and in February 2021 for Paper 2. Enrolment will start at least 3 months prior to examination schedules (i.e. September 2020 for Paper 1 and November 2020 for Paper 2).

Details of the revised syllabus, study manual and training programme will be announced in coming weeks.

Current CPWP Module 1 candidates
Current CPWP Module 1 examination candidates, either Paper 1 or Paper 2, can choose to complete the examinations either taking the current version (before the effective date of revised examination) or the revised version.

The examination result of either Paper taken under the current examination version will still be valid for 5 years, counting from the date of the examination, for the purpose of applying for CPWP certification.
