[Webinar] Exploring Tax Regime Enhancements for Funds, Family Offices, and Carried Interest

Overview

As foreshadowed in the 2024/25 Budget Speech, the HKSAR Government announced to enhance the preferential tax regimes to attract more funds and family offices to set up and operate in Hong Kong.

In November 2024, the Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB) has issued a consultation paper (views sought by 3 January 2025) concerning the Hong Kong preferential tax regimes for funds, single family offices and carried interest.

In this session, we will discuss the proposed enhancements to the Hong Kong preferential tax regimes for funds, single family offices, and carried interest outlined in the consultation paper. We will also share comments and insights on the above latest tax updates.

This webinar will focus on the Proposed Tax Regime Enhancements, including:

• Proposed enhancements to the preferential tax regime for privately-offered funds

• Proposed enhancements to the tax preferential regime for single family offices

• Proposed enhancements to the tax preferential regime for carried interest

Fund managers (particularly private equity and venture capital fund managers), fund accountants, asset managers, wealth managers, in-house counsel & compliance officers, senior management such as Responsible officers, Managers-in-Charge, directors, wealth management staff and professionals working in the family offices sector.

Financial Incentive Scheme of the WAM Pilot Programme

This course has already been approved as an eligible course of the Financial Incentive Scheme for Professional Training (“the Scheme”) under the Pilot Programme to Enhance Talent Training for the Asset and Wealth Management Sector (“the Pilot Programme”). The Scheme aims to enhance the competency and professionalism of in-service practitioners within the asset and wealth management sector and to assist other practitioners within the financial services industry in acquiring the knowledge and skills required for entering the sector. Eligible applicants will be subsidised 80% of the course fees by the HKSAR Government upon satisfactory completion of the courses approved by Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute, subject to a ceiling of HK$15,000. Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute is appointed as the implementation agent of the Pilot Programme. Speaker/Course Instructor

Ming LAM
Mr Ming Lam is a Partner of the Financial Services Tax Team in EY based in Hong Kong who has more than 16 years of practical tax experience specializing in financial services sectors (i.e. wealth and asset management, fintech, virtual assets, insurance, family office, banking and capital markets). He advises clients on all tax matters across investment fund structure, transaction and due diligence, execution and reporting. He sits at the tax and relevant committees of various industry and accounting associations. He is also a member of CPA Australia and Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA).
Elise CHAN
Ms Elise Chan is a Manager of the Financial Services Tax Team in EY based in Hong Kong who has more than 8 years of practical tax experiences and focuses on financial services industry. Elise has solid Hong Kong tax knowledge and assists clients on tax compliance, corporate tax advisory, tax due diligence and transaction structure, etc. She is a member of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA).
