Derivatives Explained

Overview

This course is designed to cover the important concepts and practices of derivative trading in Hong Kong and around the world.

Objective

On completing this course, you should be able to:
a. Understand the nature of financial derivatives;
b. Understand the functions and risks associated with derivatives trading;
c. Explain the basic features, benefits and risks of the major categories of derivatives (including forward, futures, options and swaps);
d. Understand the concepts behind the pricing of the major categories of derivatives including the factors impacting their valuation;
e. Design a derivative strategy based on customer's needs and risk appetite; and
f. Understand the major categories of financial derivatives (exchange-traded vs. over-the-counter (“OTC”)).
