[Webinar] Certified Private Wealth Professional (CPWP) Module 1 Refresher Programme: Topic 3 - Investment Funds and Alternative Investments
Overview
This course is designed to cover different types of investment funds offered to investors, for example unit trusts, mutual funds, pension funds, institutional funds, hedge funds and private equity (“PE”) funds. In addition, it will cover alternative investments, which are not traditional investments, for example, hedge funds, real estate, commodities and PE. They are usually less regulated and less liquid and may offer a higher risk-return profile.
Objective
On completing this course, you should be able to:
a. Understand essential features, risks, costs, benefits and fee structures of investment funds and unit trusts;
b. Understand different types of investment funds in terms of asset class, market, asset allocation (active vs passive), and other considerations (open-end vs closed-end);
c. Understand the contents of a fund factsheet and an audited annual report of an investment fund;
d. Evaluate fund performance through the use of benchmarks and risk-adjusted measures;
e. Identify potential red flags for an investment fund;
f. Understand the nature, key categories, advantages, and disadvantages of alternative investments;
g. Understand the role of alternative investments within asset allocation; and
h. Compare advantages and disadvantages of traditional investment funds versus hedge funds.

Who should attend
It is primarily targeted to CPWP candidates who wish to take the CPWP Module 1 Paper 1 Examination. It is also relevant to those PWM practitioners who would like to enhance their knowledge and skills in wealth management products.
Financial Incentive Scheme of the WAM Pilot Programme
This is one of the eligible courses / seminars under the Financial Incentive Scheme (“The Scheme”) of the WAM Pilot Programme.
Eligible in-service practitioners of the financial services industry could apply for a reimbursement up to 80% of the course / seminar fees, or a maximum of HK$10,000 per person throughout the period of 1 October 2016 to 31 March 2023 upon satisfactory completion.
Each individual may apply for reimbursement for more than one course / seminar subject to a maximum of HK$10,000 but each course / seminar can only be reimbursed once.
The duly signed application form together with the FIVE supporting documents must be submitted within FOUR months from the last day of the course / seminar attended. Please refer to the WAM Pilot Programme website for more details.

Speaker/Course Instructor
Jason has had a 20-year banking career in the APAC region. Before starting training, he was as Managing Director and Head of Listed Derivatives and OTC Clearing for Deutsche Bank in APAC. Jason has rich hands-on experience at a senior level, having been responsible for the management of the sales teams and the regulatory and compliance performance of the business across APAC.
He holds CISI Global Securities Operations and CISI Extended Certificate in Investment Operations (International Securities & Investment, Operational Risk, Derivatives Operations) qualifications. He also holds qualifications with the Singapore Institute of Banking and Finance. He was educated in the UK at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.
