Trust Training Certificate (TTC) – Unit 5: Trusts Compared with Other Estate Planning Vehicles (eCourse)

Overview

This eCourse is accessible from 29 April 2020 to 14 June 2020.  Enrolment deadline is 5 June 2020.

This is the Unit 5 of the training programme in pursuing the “Trust Training Certificate” (“TTC”).

This eCourse is developed in relation to the special arrangement for the participants joining the TTC Part A training in April and May 2020. It is prepared based on the recorded version of the last class (face-to-face mode) of Unit 5 done on 18 November 2019. For the participants who will take the TTC Part A Examination in June 2020, you should ensure you read the latest version of study guide and materials provided via the examination enrolment link.

There is only one module in this unit.
Module 9: Trusts compared with Other Estate Planning Vehicles

This eCourse has divided Module 9 into two parts. For each part, you must watch the recorded video and then pass the assessment (with unlimited attempts).

Objective

On completion of the course, you will be able to:
1. Recognize various estate structuring vehicles
2. Explain the key features of these various estate structuring vehicles, their differences and their respective advantages and disadvantages
3. Be aware of how these other estate structuring vehicles are used in different jurisdictions and why they are used (e.g. laws)

Content

Module 9: Trusts compared with Other Estate Planning Vehicles
1. Comparison of trusts with
- Foundations,
- Private Companies (including Special Purpose International Companies)
- Partnerships
2. Review of the key benefits and differences of each

Who should attend

The course is primarily targeted to those who would like to pursue the "Trust Training Certificate" in order to apply for the Hong Kong Trustees' Association Certified Trust Practitioner™ designation.


It is also relevant to those who would like to gain a solid understanding of the course subject matter and / or those who plan to enter the Trust industry sector.

 

Special remarks:

The course is NOT eligible for the financial incentive schemes of the WAM Pilot Programme.

She is a fund, trust and tax lawyer noted for her practice in helping global ultra-high-net-worth families set up, restructure and operate investment-centric, service-centric, and comprehensive value-centric family offices. She is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst, Certified Tax Advisor, member of the Academy Community of STEP and Certified Islamic Finance Executive. She also holds STEP Certificate and Diploma in International Trust Management, STEP Advanced Certificate in Trust Disputes, and Advanced Certificate and Diploma in Fund Administration. She is also pursuing a post-graduate university qualification in Consciousness, Spirituality and Transpersonal Psychology to enhance her offerings for ultra-high-net-worth families. She is Adjunct Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong, and Adjunct Assistant Professor at the College of Law of the National Chengchi University of Taiwan. She is also honorary fellow of the Asian Institute of International Financial Law and an attorney-author with Baker McKenzie Link and LexisNexis (where she is also on the editorial board for private wealth contents). She is listed in CityWealth Leaders List TOP 10 China & Hong Kong 2019, The Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2019, Who’s Who Legal: Private Client 2019 and CityWealth Leaders List 2019.
