Examination Policies
Candidates are responsible for thoroughly reading and understanding all examination/test (examination) details and policies provided by the HKSI Institute. By applying, you agree to comply with the policies outlined below.
- Enrolment: Enrol for the examination through the HKSI Institute Online Portal or HKSI Institute Mobile application on or before the enrolment deadline.
- Administration Fee: Offline enrolments incur an administration fee (refer to the Fee Schedule).
- Selection: Applicants must select an examination, venue/mode (Hong Kong Examination Centre, Global Examination Centres, or Remote Examination Platform), and the proctor/invigilator (proctor) language for remote examinations before making a payment.
- Changes: Once payment is made, you cannot change examination details (paper, venue/mode, proctor language) or date and time, except for specific examination papers allow rescheduling.
- Fees: All fees paid are non-transferable and non-refundable, except as per the withdrawal policy.
- Examination Date: You must schedule your Computer-based Examination (CBE) to take place within 90 days from your enrolment date, unless otherwise specified.
- Seat Availability: Seats are limited and allocated on first-come, first-served basis. The scheduling deadline does not guarantee availability.
- Scheduling: Scheduling is permitted for the same paper and mode, subject to availability.
- Missed Deadline: If you do not schedule your examination session before the scheduling deadline, as indicated on the Online Portal/HKSI Institute Mobile app, you will be marked as ABSENT. Examination fees will not be transferable or refundable.
- Applicable Examinations: This service applies to the following Computer-based Examination (CBE) enrolled via the HKSI Institute:
- Licensing Examination for Securities and Futures Intermediaries (excluding Papers 4 and 10),
- Certified Private Wealth Professional (CPWP) Module 1 Examination Paper 1
- Post-training Examination for the Core Curriculum of the Certification Programme for Virtual Asset Professionals (CVAP)
- Rescheduling Deadline: Rescheduling application must be done before the rescheduling deadline, which is six full days before the start of the scheduled examination session. For example, if your examination session starts at 11:00 am of a Saturday, the deadline is before 11:00 am on the preceding Sunday.
- Session Availability: You can reschedule to any available session within 90 days of your enrolment date, subject to availability and for the same paper and mode.
- Free Rescheduling: Rescheduling to a new date/time under the same mode is free. Global Examination Centre candidates can switch from one Prometric Examination Centre to another.
- No Late Requests: No requests for rescheduling are allowed after the scheduling deadline, regardless of the reason.
- Applicable Examinations: This service applies to the following examination enrolled via the HKSI Institute
- Licensing Examination for Securities and Futures Intermediaries
- Certified Private Wealth Professional Module 1 Examination
- Withdrawal Deadline: Withdrawal must be done before the withdrawal deadline, which is six full days before the start of the scheduled examination session or the scheduling deadline if no session is scheduled. NO withdrawal application is allowed after the deadline. Assuming your examination session is start at 11:00 am of a Saturday, the withdrawal deadline is before 11:00 am, of the preceding Sunday.
- Refunds: Only the examination fee, minus an administration fee of HKD500, is refundable. Refunds will be processed within 30 days and paid in Hong Kong dollars through the original payment method. If the original method is no longer valid, a refund cheque will be issued.
- Cancellation: Withdrawal applications cannot be cancelled once submitted.
- Withdrawn Records: Candidates can view their withdrawn records under the "UPCOMING ACTIVITY" tab of the Online Portal or the "My Exams" section of the HKSI Institute Mobile app before the scheduled examination date.
- Arrangements: Arrangements may be made for candidates with special needs or disabilities.
- Notification: Applicants requiring special facilities should notify the HKSI Institute via email to [email protected] on the day of enrolment, allowing sufficient time for the Institute to make appropriate examination arrangements. Applicants should also submit documentary evidence, such as medical proof, to support their request.
- Additional Charge: Special arrangements may incur additional charge.
- Required Documents: On examination/test (examination) day, you must present/provide the following, which must match your record in the HKSI Institute Online Portal:
- An original and valid government-issued identity card or travel document (such as Passport), with your photo and an English name.
- The last four digits of your mobile phone number OR examination confirmation number.
- Paper-based Examinations: Candidates must also bring their Admission Form, downloadable from the Online Portal three working days before the examination. It should be printed on a blank sheet of white A4 paper.
- Verification: If the required document is NOT PROVIDED or the candidate’s identity cannot be verified, they will not be allowed to take the examination.
- Verification Process: If there are doubts about a candidate’s identity, the proctor(s)/invigilator(s) (invigilator(s)) will take photographs and/or photocopies of the identification document. Candidate must remove glasses, hats, or masks to ensure their full face is visible. The photographs and copies will be kept for further investigation.
If identity cannot be confirmed, examination results may be invalidated. Refusal to allow the invigilators to take photographs or photocopies of identification documents will result in disqualification and immediate removal from the examination centre. - Impersonation: Impersonation in a serious offence. Any incidents will be reported to the police, and offenders may face prosecution.
- Arrival: Arrive at the assigned examination centre or log into the ProProctor platform by the admission start time.
- Late: Latecomers and those who fail to complete the identity verification will NOT be admitted after 30 minutes from the admission start time.
- ABSENT Grade: You will receive an ABSENT grade if you
- fail to present an original and valid government-issued identity card or travel document, such as Passport, with a photo and an English name;
- fail to provide the last four digits of your mobile phone number/examination confirmation number;
- English name or the last four digits of your mobile phone number/examination confirmation number not matching the HKSI Institute records;
- arrive at the examination centre, or log into ProProctor, but fail to complete the identity verification process 30 minutes after the admission start time;
- do not attend the examination;
- do not schedule their examination session.
- Rescheduling: Absentees will not be able to re-schedule their missed examination, and all fees paid are non-transferrable and non-refundable.
- Electronic/communication Devices: Turn off all electronic/communication devices (including phones and watches) before entering the examination centre/room and keep them off throughout the examination.
- Personal Belongings: All personal belongings must be placed in the designated area.
- Allowed Items: Only specific items (identification document, authorised electronic calculators, draft paper/noteboard and pencil/pen provided by the examination centre) are allowed on the desk.
- Inspection: Items needed during the examination will be inspected.
- Headwear: Headwear is NOT permitted during the examination unless specially approved by invigilation staff.
- Allowed Examinations: The use of calculator is allowed for the following examinations:
- Licensing Examination for Securities and Futures Intermediaries (LE) Papers 7 - 12
- Certified Private Wealth Professional (CPWP) Examination Module 1
- Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA) Final Examination
- Personal Calculators: Candidates may bring their own electronic calculators, provided the models are approved by the HKSI Institute.
- Onscreen Calculator: An onscreen calculator is provided by default in the examination system for Computer-based Examinations.
- Approved Models: Approved calculator models are updated annually and listed on the HKSI Institute website.
- Return of Materials: You must return all examination materials after completing the examination. Leave the examination centre/ProProctor only with the invigilator’s approval.
- Ownership: All examination materials are the exclusive property and ownership of the HKSI Institute and are strictly confidential. By taking the examination, candidates acknowledge HKSI Institute's sole ownership and exclusive intellectual property rights and non-disclosure of examination questions. Infringement may result in appropriate actions, and candidates will be liable for any losses, damages, and costs incurred by the Institute.
- Prohibited Devices: Candidates should not employ, or be provided with, any devices, materials, or means ("Inappropriate Devices") that they reasonably know to have been improperly obtained, procured, or prepared to assist, facilitate, or enable them to undermine the integrity of any examinations administered by the HKSI Institute. The use of such Inappropriate Devices may constitute academic and professional misconduct, which the HKSI Institute reserves the right to report to relevant professional and/or regulatory bodies.
- Proceeding as Scheduled: Examinations will proceed as scheduled unless the HKSI Institute officially announces a cancellation. Candidates should visit the HKSI Institute website and the HKSI Institute Mobile application for the latest updates.
- Notification Methods: Candidates will be notified about examination arrangements or cancellations through the following methods:

- Weather Conditions: In the event of a tropical cyclone (commonly known as “typhoon”) warning signal number 8 or above, a black rainstorm warning, or "extreme conditions", the HKSI Institute will normally announce examination cancellations on the HKSI Institute website and HKSI Institute Mobile application at least two hours before the scheduled start time. For the LE in Macao, please click here to the Guidelines on the Cancellation and/or Rescheduling of Examinations.
- During Examinations: If a typhoon warning signal number 8 or above, a black rainstorm warning, or "Extreme Conditions" is in force or anticipated to be in force while examinations are in progress, the examinations will continue until the scheduled end time.
- Unexpected Situations: In the event of unexpected situations or technical problem during the examination that cannot be resolved promptly, the HKSI Institute will either replace the examination with an alternative mode (such as paper-based) or reschedule the examination. Refund requests will not be considered.
- Refunds: If an examination is cancelled without rescheduling, the HKSI Institute will provide a full refund of the applicable examination fee(s) to affected candidates within 30 calendar days. Candidates do not have to apply for it.
- Responsibility: The HKSI Institute will not be responsible for any losses incurred by candidates due to the cancellation and/or rescheduling of examinations.
- Discretion: The HKSI Institute reserves the right to cancel or reschedule an examination at its sole discretion.
Misconduct during the examination/test (examination) leads to immediate suspension from further HKSI Institute examinations. Examination results will be withheld until the entire process for handling alleged misconduct is completed. Misconduct cases may be reported to the Examinations Disciplinary Panel and/or Appeal Panel for a decision.
- Definition: Examination misconduct includes any actions that compromise the fairness, integrity, or security of an examination. This can involve cheating, plagiarism, impersonation, collusion, disruptive behavior, forgery, or unauthorised access to examination materials.
- Responsibility: You are solely responsible for adhering to all examination regulations at all times. The Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) will NOT accept claims of misinformation by others (including invigilators/proctors/readiness agents (invigilation staff)) as an excuse to avoid disciplinary actions for any breach of the regulations. Such actions can lead to severe consequences, including suspension, invalidation of results, and any other necessary disciplinary actions.
- Examples: Examination misconduct includes, but is not limited to:
i. engaging in conversations with anyone other than the invigilator(s); ii. taking photographs, video-recordings or audio-recordings inside the examination centre at any time or during the examination session; iii. writing or attaching any information on identification document, hands, skin, or other objects; iv. starting to work on the examination materials before instructed to do so, or continuing to write/erase after being told to stop; v. leaving any communication/electronic devices (including but not limited to mobile phone, electronic devices with text/graphics scanning functions; photo-taking/video-recording/audio-recording functions, data, text or image storage/display/audio play-back/video play-back functions, input/out and/or transmission of information) on throughout the examination session unnoticed; vi. reading aloud the content of the examination question; vii. having unauthorised materials, including but not limited to documents, textbooks, notes, dictionaries, tablets, electronic/communication devices, food, drink, and any other study materials on the desk or that are in candidate’s possession during the examination session; viii. glancing or looking at another candidate’s materials or computer screen; ix. accessing, possessing, or using any unauthorised devices, such as communication/electronic device not approved by the HKSI Institute or has any feature(s) not in the section “Calculator Policy” and "Dictionary Policy" above, at any time during the examination session, including convenience break; x. copying from or using notes, books or electronic devices during the examination session; xi. copying from the work of others, or using any written materials provided by others; xii. allowing other candidates to copy from their own writing whatsoever; xiii. sharing examination materials and any kind (including but not limited to stationery and electronic calculators) between candidates during the examination session; xiv. unauthorised possession of examination questions belonging to HKSI Institute; xv. copying of any examination materials or information, in any manner or media; xvi. attempting to take away examination materials from the examination centre; xvii. causing a distraction or disturbance before the examination and/or inside the examination centre; xviii. vandalising examination materials or examination centre properties; xix. taking the examination on behalf of another person or allowing another person to take the examination on their behalf; xx. altering or creating results and/or certificate documents and/or results records; xxi. interference with the examination system resulting in unauthorised access, security circumvention, data manipulation and/or malware installation; xxii. unauthorised possession of any examination materials or information, in any manner or media, and distributing or disclosing any examination materials or information to any parties, with or without profit making purposes; xxiii. consuming food or drink, smoking or littering inside the examination centre; xxiv. leaving the examination centre or monitoring device camera without permission; xxv. using threatening, abusive or insulting language and behaviours towards the invigilation staff or other candidates; xxvi. disregarding instructions contained in the warning letter issued by the HKSI Institute regarding previous misconduct by the candidate during the examination(s);and xxvii. disregarding any latest examination regulations published by the HKSI Institute. - Handling Misconduct: If a candidate is alleged to have engaged in misconduct, the case will be handled according to the established procedures for handling such cases.
Whistleblowers can report any misconduct cases to the HKSI Institute. The HKSI Institute will investigate these reports to ensure the integrity of the allegations. The Institute will maintain the whistleblower’s confidentiality, disclosing their identity only with consent and when necessary for a thorough investigation.

- All examination results are graded as follows:
- PASS or
- FAIL or
- ABSENT
- For CBE Candidates, you can view your grades immediately after your examination session in the examination system.
- You can download and print your Notification of Results and Performance Analysis*, from the Online Portal and HKSI Institute Mobile within a specified timeframe after the examination date. If you cannot obtain your Notification of Results within one day of the specified timeframe, contact the Institute at [email protected].
- Your Notification of Results and/or Performance Analysis* will be available for download and print within ONE YEAR of the examination date.
- If you believe a grading error has occurred, you may request a results rechecking service. This service does not apply to the LE in Mainland and Taiwan.
- Submitted your request in writing to the HKSI Institute within 21 WORKING DAYS from the release of examination results, including the Examination Name, Paper and Date, and the candidate’s Name and Online Portal Login Name.
- An administration fee is charged for rechecking of each examination session (refer to our website for the Fee Schedule and payment methods). All fees paid are non-transferable and non-refundable. However, if the original examination result is found incorrect after remarking, the administration fee will be refunded.
- The HKSI Institute will normally notify you within SEVEN WORKING DAYS of receiving your written request. For confidentiality reasons, the results rechecking report will only be sent by post.
- The decision of the HKSI Institute regarding the rechecking of results is final and binding.
- Upon successfully completing a specified examination paper within the designated timeframe, you will be awarded a Certificate. Refer to the Certificate section of the completion requirements of the relevant examinations.

- Trust Training Certificate (TTC)
- The designated completion period will NOT be extended under any circumstances.
- There are NO exemptions from taking any examination papers for certification purpose.
- Certificates for LE, MPF, and the CPWP Bridging Programme will be available on the Online Portal and HKSI Institute Mobile within a specified timeframe after the examination date. You can download and print the Certificate within ONE YEAR of the examination date.
- If you cannot obtain your certificates within one day of the specified timeframe, contact the HKSI Institute at [email protected].
- The HKSI Institute/Hong Kong Trustees’ Association (HKTA) will notify CIIA/TTC candidates directly when their certificates are available for collection. Certificates not collected within six months of the notification date will be destroyed.
- Keep your certificates safely, as the HKSI Institute will NOT reissue certificates.
- Note: There are different requirements for regulators’ licensing/professional bodies’ registration and the HKSI Institute certification. You are strongly advised to contact regulators/professional bodies directly for licensing/registration requirements.
- If you have lost or damaged your official Notification of Results and/or HKSI Institute Certificates (LE/MPF only) or request these documents after the display period in the Online Portal and HKSI Institute Mobile, you may apply for a Statement of Results.
- A Statement of Results will be issued for each examination paper. You can choose to include all grades listed on the HKSI Institute Certificates that you previously obtained.
- The HKSI Institute charges an administration fee for issuing the Statement of Results (refer to our website for the Fee Schedule and payment methods). All fees paid are non-transferable and non-refundable.
- You can download the Statement of Results from the Online Portal (under eForm > Application Record) approximately 30 minutes after receiving email confirmation of your successful application. The download link will be valid for one year from the application date.
* Performance Analysis is available for the LE, CPWP, CPWP Bridging, CVAP and TTC.
The Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (the “Ordinance”) has been effective in Hong Kong since late 1996. This section is intended to help you understand your obligations and rights regarding the provision of your personal data to the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) and how the HKSI Institute may use or handle such data.
- You must keep the HKSI Institute updated on any changes in your personal data from the time you enrol as candidates for an examination/test (examination) until you complete it.
- The HKSI Institute will use the personal data provided for the following purposes:
i administering the examination and marketing; ii delivering information about the examination; iii maintaining candidate records; iv distributing examination results to concerned candidates; v posting of the full name and jurisdiction of Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA) Candidates on the website of the Association of Certified International Investment Analysts (ACIIA), unless expressly requested not to do so by the respective CIIA Candidate in writing; vi certifying candidates’ examination-related information to the relevant professional or regulatory bodies;

vii reporting information of candidates violating the examination regulations to the relevant professional or regulatory bodies, the police, inform relevant stakeholders, and display information about the misconduct case on HKSI institute website; viii transferring, releasing, disclosing or providing to the relevant regulators or associations for monitoring, verifying and conducting matching (including “matching procedure” as defined in s.2 of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, Cap 486) purposes as well as any other related purposes of assisting the relevant professional or regulatory bodies to perform and discharge their functions; ix informing candidates of activities, courses, examinations, products or services that the HKSI Institute believes may interest them; x conducting research or statistical analysis; xi promoting and providing services offered by the HKSI Institute, the relevant regulators or associations or such third parties as determined by the HKSI Institute; xii releasing information to the relevant third parties on whose behalf the HKSI Institute administers, conducts or organises examinations and to any third party that the HKSI Institute engages to administer and/or conduct examinations for and on behalf of the HKSI Institute; and xiii any other related purposes. - The HKSI Institute will keep your personal data confidential. Nevertheless, during its operations, the HKSI Institute may compare, transfer or exchange your data with the data already possessed, or obtained hereafter, by the HKSI Institute for these or any other purposes.
- You have the right, under the Ordinance, to request access to, or correction of any data provided by you as per the manner and limitations prescribed therein.
- As the Ordinance allows, the HKSI Institute has the right to charge a reasonable fee for the processing of any request for data access.

Candidate Registration Policy
- Registration: To register for the CIIA Final Examination for the first time, candidates must sign up through the HKSI Institute Online Portal in the eForm section as a CIIA Registered Candidate. Click here to view the Entry Requirements for the CIIA Final Examination.
- Documentation: Applicants are required to provide photocopies of academic certificates, transcripts, and other supporting documents.
- Fees: All fees paid are non-transferable. Once payment is made, applicants cannot withdraw from the registration application or changes the examination language.
- Remove Registration: To remove your name from the CIIA Final Examination register, submit a written request to the HKSI Institute. Registrations may also be removed on disciplinary grounds (refer to the Examination Misconduct section above for details).
Calculator Policy
- Use of Calculators: The use of calculator is allowed for the CIIA Final Examination.
- Personal Calculators: Candidates may bring their own electronic calculators.
- Approved Models: Please refer to the approved calculator models for the CIIA Final Examination.
Dictionary Policy
- Use of Dictionaries: CIIA candidates may use non-thematic translation dictionaries to translate between a foreign language and the examination language, without any annotations. Financial and thematic dictionaries are not allowed.
Time Reference:
- All times mentioned in these examination policies refer to the Bureau International des Poids et Mesures (BIPM) (https://www.bipm.org/en/).
Decision Authority:
- The decision of the HKSI Institute shall be final on all matters concerning the interpretation of the examination policies. The latest examination policies will prevail in case of discrepancies.
Language Versions:
- In case of discrepancies between the English and Chinese versions of the latest examination policies, the English version will prevail.
- Announcements will be made in English and/or Cantonese. You are responsible for managing any linguistic difficulties.
