HKSI Institute Confers Distinguished Honorary Fellowship to Professor K C Chan, GBS, JP

 Hong Kong, 16 November: The Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) awarded its highest accolade, the Honorary Fellowship, to Professor K C Chan at its prestigious annual Autumn Dinner yesterday. The award was conferred to Professor Chan in recognition of his inspirational leadership and the significant contributions he has made to the development of the financial services industry and the HKSI Institute. 

“Professor Chan is a long-standing champion of the Institute’s work, not least for his seed idea which led to the development of our Scholarship Programme which has benefited more than 700 university students since 2004,” said Mr John Maguire, Chairman of the HKSI Institute. “We are grateful for his strong and continuing support in building a robust talent pool for the industry, as well as his pragmatic approaches towards developing different areas of the financial services sector to bolster Hong Kong as a true international financial powerhouse,” Mr Maguire added.

Professor KC Chan was a Board Director of the HKSI Institute from 2002 to 2005, and was Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region from July 2007 to June 2017.  Professor Chan has held numerous public service positions including Chairman of the Consumer Council, Director of the Hong Kong Futures Exchange, Member of the Commission on Strategic Development, Member of the Commission on Poverty, Member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, Member of the Hang Seng Index Advisory Committee, and Member of the Hong Kong Council for Academic Accreditation. Professor Chan is currently an Adjunct Professor and Senior Advisor to the Dean at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School.

I am pleased to have the unwavering support and commitment of the various stakeholders and my close ally the HKSI Institute, working closely together for a common cause, which is promoting excellence in the financial services industry,” said Professor Chan. “I am honoured to be accorded the Honorary Fellowship, and I look forward to continuing to engage with the HKSI Institute, the industry and academia in realising the many talent development initiatives ahead,” he added.

At the dinner, five esteemed members of the HKSI Institute were inducted as Senior Fellows in recognition of their remarkable work and dedication in driving the HKSI Institute’s mission of raising and promoting standards for Hong Kong financial services industry. They are:

  • Mr Christopher Lee, Senior Partner, Farron, Augustine & Alexander Limited
  • Ms Phyllis Lee, Managing Director, Head of Registry, Computershare Asia
  • Mr Victor Lee, Partner, SM Investment Advisors Limited
  • Professor SF Wong, retired Professor of Practice in Finance, University of Hong Kong
  • Ms Judith Yuen, Associate Director, Securities and Futures Commission

 “Our Honorary Fellows and Senior Fellows have demonstrated exemplary leadership for all to emulate and continue to make their mark and pave the way for Hong Kong’s next generation,” Mr Maguire commended.

“Nurturing young talent for the securities and investment industry remains a priority for the Institute.  Our annual Autumn Dinner is an opportunity for us to connect students and young practitioners with leaders of the industry,” Mr Maguire added. “We are grateful for the generous sponsors’ contributions, which have enabled our younger members to participate in our prestigious Autumn Dinner celebration and interact with industry luminaries. Given the right platform and encouragement, our young people will flourish,” emphasised Mr Maguire.
