More than hundred guests including various government officials, regulators, partners, industry leaders and Members attended the dinner and extended their well wishes to HKSI Institute. In his Keynote Address, Mr Christopher Hui congratulated the newly inducted Honorary Fellow and Senior Fellows and commended the Institute on its achievements in being the champion and advocate of high professional standards in the financial services industry. “At times of uncertainty, it is ever more important to uphold the professionalism of the financial services industry, which is the cornerstone of Hong Kong’s status as a leading international financial centre (IFC),” Mr Hui added. He specially thanked HKSI Institute for playing an instrumental role in the Government’s Pilot Programme to Enhance Talent Training for the Asset and Wealth Management Sector, which helped groom young professional talents and raise the interest and awareness in the industry.
Mr Hui also quoted the message from President Xi’s important speech “Among others, that we must maintain Hong Kong’s distinctive status and advantages, and continue to create strong impetus for growth”. Mr Hui emphasised that the Government is well supported by the Mainland in enhancing its status as an IFC, strengthening its functions as a global offshore RMB business hub, an international asset management centre and a risk management centre. He trusts HKSI Institute will continue to be a staunch supporter in promoting professional excellence and continued development of the financial services industry of HK.
“It has been a remarkable 25 years and we are grateful for all the support from our stakeholders and contributions from our members. We are proud of our achievements in enhancing professional competency through professional examinations, grooming talents through high quality training programmes and engaging the professional community through our membership. We will continue to play a key role in supporting the initiatives to maintain Hong Kong’s position as an IFC,” said Mr Colin Shaftesley, Chairman of HKSI Institute.
At the dinner, HKSI Institute conferred the highest recognition, its Honorary Fellowship, to Dr King Au, Executive Director of the Financial Services Development Council, for his remarkable contribution in developing the financial services industry in Hong Kong, and to the Institute. Dr Au was HKSI Institute’s Past Chairman and served on many Committees within the Institute over the years. “King’s active Board service and visionary leadership as Chairman in the earlier years has established a solid foundation for the Institute. His dedication and unparalleled contributions continue to benefit HKSI Institute today and it is only fitting for us to recognise his contributions,” said Mr Shaftesley.
On his Honorary Fellowship, Dr Au said, “I am honoured to be presented with the award. With HKSI Institute’s strong heritage, I have every confidence that together, we can serve the industry better and continue to play an important role going forward.” Dr Au is currently serving as a Council member of the Hong Kong Institute of Chartered Public Accountants and an Index Advisory Committee member of China Securities Index Co., Limited among other public services.
