HKSI Institute Awards Mr Tim Lui Its Highest Honour
Hong Kong, 7 November 2024: The Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) hosted its flagship Autumn Dinner on 6 November 2024, with a distinguished gathering of over 160 members and guests from the financial industry. The prestigious event saw the conferment of its highest accolade, the Honorary Fellowship, to Mr Tim Lui, as well as the induction of three esteemed HKSI Institute Members as Senior Fellows.
“A respected leader with impressive industry credentials, Mr Tim Lui has made significant contributions to the growth and development of the financial services sector in Hong Kong, as well as to the HKSI Institute. Under his exceptional leadership, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) has enhanced Hong Kong's global competitiveness and connectivity with Mainland markets,” said Mr Colin Shaftesley, Chairperson of the HKSI Institute. “His unwavering support to the HKSI Institute has been invaluable. He has actively engaged with our young members, sharing valuable advice and insights that have greatly benefitted our professional community,” Mr Shaftesley added.
“I am truly honoured to be recognised as an Honorary Fellow and proud to join the eminent ranks of Honorary Fellows who have paved the way. I look forward to continuing my close engagement with the HKSI Institute, working together to drive strategic initiatives that promote a robust and resilient financial services sector built on the pillars of integrity, innovation and sustainable growth,” said Mr Tim Lui.
After six years of dedicated service, Mr Tim Lui concluded his tenure as Chairman of the SFC on 19 October 2024. He is currently a Director of the Hong Kong Academy of Finance and a member of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority’s Exchange Fund Advisory Committee and Banking Advisory Committee. Mr Lui joined PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in 1978 and had an illustrious career with the firm, holding various leadership positions, including Senior Tax Partner, Lead Director of the Board of Partners, and a member of the Global Board. He retired as a Senior Advisor of PwC in 2018.

Mr Shaftesley expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the three newly inducted Senior Fellows, acknowledging the profound impact of their contributions. “Samuel and Helen drive excellence in the asset management sector, while Robert advances Fintech and virtual assets. Their tireless commitment to industry standards extends beyond their own professional endeavours to nurturing our next generation of financial professionals, setting a high bar for our community. We are grateful for their unwavering support and expertise, which will shape the future of our industry,” he said.
