HKSI Institute Admits Dr John Greenwood as Honorary Fellow and Three Remarkable Members as Senior Fellows in 2020

Hong Kong, 7 October: The Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) conferred its prestigious Honorary Fellowship to Dr John Greenwood, in recognition of his distinguished contributions to the development of the financial services industry in Hong Kong and to the HKSI Institute. Three HKSI Institute Members, Mr Oliver Goh, Dr Kent Lai and Mr Barry Tong were also honoured as Senior Fellows for their contributions to the professional community.

“Dr Greenwood is no stranger to us. He is an eminent economist, a highly regarded advisor to a number of regulators and governments, in Hong Kong and England, as well as the architect of the currency board scheme for stabilising the Hong Kong dollar in 1983 which is still in operation today,” said Ms Katherine Ng, Chairman of the HKSI Institute. “Dr Greenwood’s invaluable support to the HKSI Institute since 2009 and his considerable commitment to, and involvement with the development of our industry are widely acknowledged, and we are privileged to have Dr Greenwood as our Honorary Fellow,” Ms Ng said.

Dr John Greenwood is the Chief Economist of Invesco and is based in London. He has been a member of the Currency Board Sub-Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority since 1998. He is also a member of the Shadow Monetary Policy Committee in England and serves on the board of the Hong Kong Association in London.

“It seems like it was just yesterday that I first shared my views on the global economy and monetary policies – subjects close to my heart – with members of the HKSI Institute, although my association with the HKSI Institute goes back over ten years. I have been returning to the HKSI Institute year after year since then, and I am delighted to be presented with the Honorary Fellowship. I look forward to continuing my support for the Institute and helping members to understand the complexities of the modern and global economy,” Dr John Greenwood said.

Also, this year, three members of the HKSI Institute were inducted as Senior Fellows in recognition of their remarkable contributions. They played a pivotal role in driving talent grooming initiatives of the Institute, as well as expanding its reach and connections with industry participants. They are:

  • Mr Oliver Goh, Head of Client Service for Securities Services, Citibank Hong Kong
  • Dr Kent Lai, Managing Director, MSc in International Banking, Lingnan University
  • Mr Barry Tong, Advisory Partner, Grant Thornton

“We are grateful to have the tremendous support of big-hearted individuals and Members who assist us in our work in advancing the professional fraternity and industry. Their generous spirit and devotion to the community have enriched many of us and they have set a glowing example for us to follow,” Ms Ng commended of the new Honorary Fellow and Senior Fellows.

HKSI Institute offers a comprehensive programme of high-quality professional training, events and internationally recognised examinations; and a vibrant membership community to empower individuals to achieve their professional goals. The latter include young talent grooming initiatives such as the Scholarship Programme for undergraduates, as well as the Mentoring Programme and the Young Professionals Club, both aimed to provide young members with an all-rounded support to their career and development needs.
