HKSI Institute Announces Katherine Ng as New Chairman

Hong Kong, 12 December: At its 21st Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) announced the appointment of Ms Katherine Ng as its new Chairman.  All resolutions set out in the AGM Notice were duly approved by Members.  At the Board election, five members were elected to serve for a term of three years.  Mr Benson Lo Tak Wing, Mr Louis Mak Kwong Fai and Mr Philip Andrew Tye were the re-elected Board members joined by two elected members, Mr Ryan Chan Hung Ngam Younker and Ms Phyllis Lee Yim Lan.

Ms Katherine Ng succeeds Mr John Maguire, who has chaired the HKSI Institute for the past three years.  Ms Ng has served on the HKSI Institute’s Board since December 2014, and is the Head of Policy, Listing Department of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX).  Prior to joining HKEX in 2013, Ms Ng had served as Political Assistant to the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of the Hong Kong Government; worked in an international investment bank; and was a private practice lawyer with an international law firm in Hong Kong and London.  Currently, Ms Ng is a Director of the World Wide Fund for Nature Hong Kong, an Advisor to Our Hong Kong Foundation, a member of the Vocational Training Council’s Banking and Finance Industry Training Board, and a fellow of the Aspen Institute.

“Katherine brings with her vast experience in the financial services industry, both in the private sector and as a regulator.  Her leadership and expertise will help bolster the Institute’s position in meeting its 2020 strategic goals of driving standards, developing talent and engaging with the professional community, and I am confident that Katherine will propel the Institute from strength to strength,” said Mr Maguire.

Commenting on her new role, Ms Katherine Ng said, “I am grateful for the trust and mandate by the Board to lead the Institute, and I look forward to working closely with the Board, our Members and industry stakeholders as the year ahead rolls out.”

“Our sincere thanks to outgoing Chairman, John Maguire, for his visionary leadership and active contribution over the years, particularly his work on developing young talent for the industry as well as his wise counsel on the Institute’s initiatives on the asset and wealth management sector.  We wish him well and look to him for his continued support of the HKSI Institute,” said Ms Ng.

It comprises fifteen directors of whom three directors are appointed by the SFC, and twelve directors are elected by its Members.
