HKSI Institute Announces New Board Chairperson and Directors for the New Term
Hong Kong, 18 December 2024: At its 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) announced the election of Mr Kevin Liem as its new Chairperson by its Board of Directors, succeeding Mr Colin Shaftesley who has chaired the HKSI Institute for three years. The HKSI Institute also welcomes six Board Directors, who will serve for a three-year term effective 18 December 2024:

- Mr Jason Ho (Newly elected)
- Mr Robert Lui (Re-elected)
- Mr Barry Tong (Re-elected)
- Dr Wang Zhongze (Re-elected)
Mr Kevin Liem, is a Senior Fellow of the HKSI Institute. He serves as the Treasurer of the Council and Court of the Hong Kong Baptist University, and is the Chairman of its Finance Committee, Investment Committee and Superannuation Fund. He also holds the position as a Managing Director of a Hong Kong-based family office. Prior to that, he was the Chief Investment Officer for the Asian region at Swiss private banking group Compagnie Bancaire Helvétique SA, following his tenures with Aetos Capital’s Asia Pacific Speculative Investment Fund and UBS Investment Bank’s Investment Banking Department respectively.
“I am honoured to take on the role of Board Chairperson of the HKSI Institute. Through my four years of serving on the Board, I have witnessed the exciting growth and progress of the Institute. As I now lead the Institute, we will build on this momentum by expanding our professional development programmes to meet the evolving needs of practitioners and the industry. Our offerings will cover a broad spectrum of key topics, including Fintech, ESG, virtual asset and asset management. We will also deepen our connections with the financial services community in the Greater Bay Area, and nurture the next generation of leaders,” said Mr Liem.

We look forward to their continued involvement in various capacities, where their expertise and support will undoubtedly enrich our future endeavours," Mr Liem said.
Reflecting his 15-year tenure on the Board, of which three years were as Board Chairperson, Mr Shaftesley said his time at the HKSI Institute has been rewarding and memorable. “It has been an absolute privilege to work alongside many dedicated members who shared my commitment to excellence. Our professional development training has been a hallmark of our journey, and we are dedicated to establishing ourselves as the premier provider of choice for practitioners and new entrants, empowering them with the skills and expertise to excel in their career,” Mr Shaftesley said. During his tenure, Mr Shaftesley has led the HKSI Institute through several significant milestones, including the launch of the Advance Learning Platform, the Institute’s anchor online learning platform; navigating the pandemic and relocating the office; as well as making substantial progress on the Institute’s remote examination platform, a key initiative for the future.
“As I pass the baton to Kevin, I have every confidence in the continued success and growth of the Institute under his able leadership,” Mr Shaftesley added.
The Institute also welcomes the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC)’s reappointment of Mr Eric Ho, Director of Licensing, Intermediaries of the SFC, Mr Jeremy Lam, Partner and Head of Financial Services Practice of Deacons and Dr Gordon Tsui, Permanent Honorary President of Hong Kong Securities Association to the Board. The Appendix below sets out the HKSI Institute Board of Directors for the new term – 15 directors of whom 3 directors are appointed by the SFC and 12 directors elected by its members. The Board of Directors comprises members from different business sectors across the financial services-related industry, from academia, corporate finance, fund management, futures, investment analysts, and securities sectors.
