Overview

As climate change continues to pose significant social and economic challenges to the world, sustainable development is now a global agenda. The 28th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP28) committed over US$660 million to the Loss and Damage Fund to support vulnerable developing countries which were already experiencing the adverse impacts of climate change. Cementing its commitment to combatting climate change, COP28 concluded with a historic agreement to transition away from fossil fuels to renewables.

In the face of this critical climate crisis, more than 140 countries and regions have set a net-zero target, including China with its “30-60” goals — to peak carbon emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060. In Hong Kong, in 2025 the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) will implement climate disclosure-related amendments to its Listing Rules by adopting the IFRS Sustainability Disclosure Standards published by the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB). The HKSAR Government has also committed to working with financial regulators and stakeholders to develop a roadmap on the appropriate adoption of the ISSB Standards.

Bloomberg Businessweek/Chinese Edition (Bloomberg), as one of the most influential business magazines in Hong Kong with a global vision and Greater China connection, the Chinese Edition of Bloomberg Businessweek maintains a keen focus on the development of ESG. Once again Bloomberg collaborate with Deloitte in co-presenting the sixth ESG Leading Enterprises. By recognising Hong Kong-listed companies and financial institutions with outstanding ESG performance, the event aims at encouraging enterprises to strive for excellence in ESG practices, ultimately to foster a sustainable business culture with positive impact on the environment and society.
