Hong Kong, 1 November 2019: The Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) conferred its distinguished Honorary Fellowship to Mr Carlson Tong, GBS, JP at its prestigious annual Autumn Dinner yesterday. The top accolade was awarded to Mr Tong in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the development of the financial services industry in Hong Kong and to the HKSI Institute.

 “We are pleased to acknowledge the success and contributions of Mr Carlson Tong.  It is through his dedicated support, guidance and encouragement during his Chairmanship at the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) that helped the HKSI Institute advance its work in raising and promoting professional standards for the industry and deliver maximum value to our stakeholders,” said Ms Katherine Ng, Chairman of the HKSI Institute.  “Mr Tong’s accomplishments in developing and upholding the quality of Hong Kong’s securities and futures markets are well recognised, and we are honoured to have him as our eminent Honorary Fellow,” Ms Ng added.

 Mr Carlson Tong is the Chairman of the University Grants Committee and served as the Chairman of the SFC from 2012 to 2018.  He was also the Chairman of KPMG in China and Hong Kong from 2007 to 2011 and the Chairman of the Asia Pacific region and a member of the global board from 2009 to 2011.  Mr Tong has been active in public and community services and is a member of the Hong Kong Exchange Fund Advisory Committee and a board member of the Hong Kong Airport Authority and the Academy of Finance.

 At the dinner, four esteemed members of the HKSI Institute were inducted as Senior Fellows in recognition of their distinctive contributions and services to the HKSI Institute, as well as to the larger community. They are:

  • Ms Alison Cheung, Independent Non-Executive Director, Fuyao Glass Industry Group Co. Ltd
  • Mr Graham Cottingham, Chief Executive Officer, Quartermain Group
  • Mr Kevin Liem, former Chief Investment Officer, CBH Asia Limited
  • Mr Charles Lo, Consultant, Grant Thornton China

On the conferment of the new Honorary Fellow and Senior Fellows, Ms Ng has this to add, “We are privileged to have members who go the extra mile to develop our professional fraternity and nurture the young professionals to achieve their career ambitions. Their dedication and pursuit for excellence inspired us all and they are positive role models for practitioners and young people alike.”
