FSDC Industry Exchange Series – Internationalising China’s carbon market: the Role of Hong Kong as an International Financial Centre

As our HKSI Institute Member, you are cordially invited to join the FSDC’s webinar to learn about the importance of carbon trading in the fight against global warming and to outline the steps Hong Kong can take to become a regional hub in carbon trading.

The carbon market is a critical tool in the global pursuit of sustainable development with Mainland China playing a significant role in this arena. Currently hosting the world’s largest mandatory carbon market, Mainland China is also actively developing its voluntary carbon market and is set to become the largest voluntary carbon market globally by 2030. However, access for international investors remains limited.

Hong Kong, with its strategic ties to Mainland China, is uniquely positioned to facilitate the development of an effective, vibrant, and internationally accessible carbon market. To explore this potential, the FSDC has conducted a study on how Hong Kong can support the internationalisation of Mainland China’s carbon markets and enhance its status as a regional carbon trading hub.
