FSDC Industry Exchange Series – Unveiling Hong Kong’s Potential: Prospective Growth in the Expanding Commodity Market
As a leading international financial centre, Hong Kong consistently ranks among the top three global financial hubs, serving as a beacon for global trade and finance. While Hong Kong’s financial market is renowned for its robust equity sector, enhancing and expanding its commodity market offerings will further strengthen the city’s economic resilience and elevate its global competitiveness.
Hong Kong’s proximity to mainland China gives it a natural advantage in developing its commodity market, given China’s importance in the global commodities landscape. Moreover, the common law system, the financial architecture, and the demonstrated ability to handle cross-boundary transactions give Hong Kong the natural advantage of being a commodity market efficiency enhancer.
To drive this development, the Financial Services Development Council (FSDC) has conducted a study to support the growth of Hong Kong’s commodity market by enhancing the trading infrastructure and expanding its market. The report recommends prioritising key commodities from key markets, establishing a Commodity Connect scheme, and strengthening Hong Kong’s commodity market ecosystem.
As our HKSI Institute Member, you are cordially invited to attend the FSDC Industry Exchange Series webinar. The speakers will discuss the strategies to enhance Hong Kong’s commodity market and the steps Hong Kong can take to become a regional commodity trading hub.
