HKSI Institute Meets Key Regulator and Industry Leaders in Macau

Hong Kong, 26 January 2017 – The Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (“HKSI Institute”) Members exchanged views with key regulator and industry leaders of the financial services industry during a recent visit to Macau in December 2016. The focus is on Macau’s “One Centre, One Platform” development strategy and the opportunities associated with the initiatives.

Led by the HKSI Institute’s Board Director and Outreach Committee Chairman Mr Louis Mak, the 32-member delegation visited the Monetary Authority of Macau, the Macau Association of Banks and the Bank of China Macau Branch. Delegates had a fruitful dialogue with senior government officials and industry leaders about the key developments. The hot topic of financial leasing, driven by the government and welcomed by the industry professionals, drew Members’ attention during the discussion. While the “One Centre, One Platform” is the city’s strategic development direction to provide a platform serving the financial industry sectors of China and Portuguese-speaking countries; it is also a part of the Belt and Road development strategy and has its important role to play in contributing to the economic growth of the Pearl River Delta region.

Mr Samuel Tsang, Chairman of Century Legend (Holdings) Limited, Organising Committee Chair of the Study Mission and newly elected Board Director, said, “I am most delighted to connect the HKSI Institute Members with key players of the financial services industry in Macau. Members are keen to explore business opportunities with counterparts in this nearby market.”

Three council members from the HKSI Institute’s Young Professional Club (“YPC”) joined this study mission with the sponsorship from I-Access Group Ltd (“the Group”). Board Director Mr Louis Mak, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Group, has sponsored young members of the HKSI Institute to join various study missions since 2013. “The Hong Kong – Zhuhai – Macau Bridge connects the three markets and HKSI Institute relates professionals across different markets. This is a rewarding experience for the young professionals to meet and have an in-depth conversation with the senior officials from the key regulator and market leaders in Macau.”

The delegation also enjoyed the guided tour to the Grand Lisboa, a renowned gaming operator in the region. Valuable contacts were established during the official visits and lunch reception hosted by the SJM Holdings Limited.

“The HKSI Institute’s study mission, which is one of our signature events, is always well-timed for direct and first-hand updates of different markets. We visited Zhuhai-Hengqin in September 2015 and the day-trip to Macau is a continuation of the journey to explore market potential and prospects in the Pearl River Delta region.” Miss Ruth Kung, Chief Executive of HKSI Institute said. “I am grateful for members’ support and together we have constructed a good platform for business contacts and connections,” Miss Kung supplemented.
