HKSI Institute Announces Mr Colin Shaftesley’s Continuation as Chairman and the Newly Elected Board of Directors

Hong Kong, 14 December:  At the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute)’s 26th Annual General Meeting (AGM) today, all resolutions set out in the AGM Notice were duly approved by Members.  Mr David Chau and Ms Helen Leung, the two newly elected Directors, will join re-elected member Mr Kevin Liem, in serving on the Board for a three-year term.  The HKSI Institute is also pleased to announce that Mr Colin Shaftesley has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Board for another one-year term.

Mr Colin Shaftesley, a Senior Fellow of the HKSI Institute, serves as a Senior Adviser of the Financial Services Practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong.  With over 30 years of experience in audits, internal control reviews, fraud investigations, registration matters and regulation in Hong Kong, he brings extensive expertise and connections to the Institute.  Since assuming the role of Chairman in December 2021, he has led the Institute to significant milestones including the successful relocation of its office after two decades, initiation of the development of our remote examination platform and the adept navigation of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic through his strategic directions, agile approach and unwavering dedication.

“The HKSI Institute has experienced remarkable growth and development since its establishment, and I am honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility to lead the Institute for another year,” expressed Mr Colin Shaftesley.  “In the year ahead, my goal is to elevate our role in the financial services sector through collaboration with the Board, Committees, and members.  The focus will be on the launch of training and examinations for Securities and Futures Commission’s two new licensing regimes (for Virtual Asset Trading Platform Operators and the new Type 13 regulated activity applicable to depositories of SFC-authorised collective investment schemes); and the expansion of professional development services in key areas such as Fintech, ESG, asset and wealth management, and ethics.  Additionally, efforts will be prioritised to enhance reach and engagement with the financial services community in the Greater Bay Area, the Mainland Chinese community in Hong Kong, the Fintech community, and students,” he added.

"On behalf of the Board, I would like to also extend our sincere appreciation to the retiring Directors, Miss Angelina Kwan and Mr Graham Cottingham, for their invaluable counsel and impactful service over the past six years.  We look forward to their continued engagement in different capacities, providing guidance for our future endeavours, " said Mr Shaftesley.

The Institute also welcomes the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC)’s reappointment of Mr Eric Ho, Director of Licensing, Intermediaries of the SFC, Mr Jeremy Lam, Partner and Head of Financial Services Practice of Deacons and Dr Gordon Tsui, Permanent Honorary President of Hong Kong Securities Association to the Board.  The Appendix below sets out the HKSI Institute Board of Directors for the new term – 15 directors of whom 3 directors are appointed by the SFC and 12 directors elected by its members.  The Board of Directors comprises members from different business sectors across the financial services-related industry, from academia, corporate finance, fund management, futures, investment analysts, and securities sectors.
