Membership Class

To address the needs of different finance practitioners, the HKSI Institute provides a multi-tier membership structure. Please find our 6 classes of membership below. 

Members of the HKSI Institute agree to oblige by the Membership Rules and Code of Ethics and uphold the professional standard of the investment and securities industry.

Our 6 Individual Membership Classes:

Honorary Fellow (FHKSI (Hon))

The HKSI Institute Honorary Fellowship is intended for individuals who have made distinguished contribution to the financial community. Membership is by nomination and approval of the Board.

Senior Fellow (SFHKSI)

The HKSI Institute’s Senior Fellowship is reserved for Fellow Members (FHKSI) who have made a significant contribution to the development of the Institute and the industry through their association with the Institute.

Qualified Fellows may progress to Senior Fellows on the recommendation of Executive Committee and approval by the Board on an annual basis.

Fellow (FHKSI)

Ordinary Members can apply for progression to Fellow Members through one of the following routes:

  • At least 5 years of Ordinary Membership; AND
  • Holds or has held a senior / executive position with at least 15 years of relevant industry experience as listed in Schedule 2 of the Membership Rules.
Ordinary Member (MHKSI)

Individuals who:

  1. Have at least 3 years’ relevant industry experience as described below; AND
  2. Are either licensed by/registered with the SFC, the HKMA, the IA or the MPFA OR, if not so licensed, holds a recognised academic or industry qualification or membership as described below.

 

At least 3 years’ relevant industry experience

Relevant industry experience means work experience gained within the financial services industry as specified in Schedule 2 of the Membership Rules before, during and/or after attaining academic or professional qualification.

Recognised academic qualification

Holder of a bachelor’s degree or above, or equivalent, in any discipline from a local or Mainland or other overseas registered education institution acceptable to the Institute.

Recognised industry qualification or membership
  1. HKSI Institute Specialist Certificate in Securities, Derivatives, Credit Rating Agency, Corporate Finance, and / or Asset Management;
  2. Professional Diplomas, Certificate Programmes or Professional Qualification Programmes granted by the Institute;
  3. Certified International Wealth Manager (CIWM)
  4. Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIA)
  5. Certified Private Wealth Professional (CPWP)
  6. Recognised industry qualifications listed in the Guidelines on Competence issued by the SFC or equivalent
  7. Qualified member of Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountant (HKICPA) or Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
  8. Member / Fellow of Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI)
  9. Barrister or solicitor admitted in Hong Kong.
  10. Holder of other professional qualification from local or Mainland or other overseas institution equivalent to the above may be considered
Associate Member (AHKSI)

Individuals who:

  1. Have less than 3 years’ relevant industry experience as described below; AND
  2. Are either licensed by/registered with the SFC, the HKMA, the IA or the MPFA OR, if not so licensed, holds a recognised academic or industry qualification or membership described below.

 

Less than 3 years’ relevant industry experience

Relevant industry experience means work experience gained within the financial services industry as specified in Schedule 2 of the Membership Rules before, during and/or after attaining academic or professional qualification.

Recognised academic qualification
  1. Holder of a Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE), or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent.
  2. Holder of associate degree, higher diploma or bachelor’s degree or above, or equivalent, in any discipline from local or Mainland or other overseas registered education institutions acceptable to the Institute.
Recognised industry qualification or membership
  1. HKSI Institute Certificate in Securities, Derivatives, Credit Rating Agency, Corporate Finance, and / or Asset Management;
  2. Professional Diplomas, Certificate Programmes or Professional Qualification Programmes granted by HKSI Institute;
  3. Recognised industry qualifications listed in the Guidelines on Competence issued by the SFC or equivalent
  4. Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI) Investment Operations Certificate
  5. FSA Registered Person Examinations in UK
  6. US General Securities Representative – Series 7
  7. US Futures Representative – Series 3
  8. Associate of CISI
Student Member (UHKSI)

Student Membership is open to post-secondary full-time students to apply.

  • Post-secondary full-time students from local or Mainland or other overseas registered education institutions acceptable to the HKSI Institute are eligible to apply
  • No relevant industry experience is required

If your application is unsuccessful or withdrawn, refund will be arranged after deducting a non-refundable administrative fee (current rate at 40% of the applicable joining and annual subscription fee or progression application fee). The refund will be made within 30 calendar days upon confirmation of arrangements by the HKSI Institute.
