The Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange Society Qualification Examination (GSQE) was first launched in 2010 for the introduction of the “Practitioners Registration Scheme” by the Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE). CGSE and Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) have started to perform a comprehensive update to revise its current syllabus and study manual from the 4th quarter of 2020 and planned to publish the revised study manual in April 2021. However, the pandemic inevitably affected some of the review processes, the expected publication date of the new manual will be delayed to June 2021.
What have been changed?
As mentioned in the last announcement in December 2020, the GSQE structure remains unchanged and consists of two papers. However, the new study manual will focus more on the regulatory and practical aspects of the bullion industry and the role of CGSE. At the same time, contents relating to some technical details, such as the technical analysis will be reduced.
When is the effective date?
The examinations based on this new study manual will tentatively be effective from September 2021 onward.
Current and potential GSQE candidates
The examinations based on the current version study manual would be held in March and June 2021. Current candidates, i.e. those have passed either Paper 1 or Paper 2, can choose to complete the other paper either taking the coming two examinations or the revised version afterward. The examination result of either paper taken under the current version will still be valid for 3 years, counting from the date of the examination, for the purpose of applying for registration in CGSE.
