Revised GSQE will be launched in mid 2021

The Chinese Gold and Silver Exchange Society Qualification Examination (GSQE) was first launched in 2010 for the introduction of the “Practitioners Registration Scheme” by the Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE). CGSE and Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute (HKSI Institute) have recently performed a comprehensive review to revise its current syllabus and study manual.

Why revision is required?

To ensure that the syllabus and content of the study manual remain relevant and practical to the daily work of precious metals market practitioners and reflect the latest development of the sector.

What have been changed?

The GSQE structure remains unchanged and consists of two papers: Paper 1 for Dealers and Account Executives and Paper 2 for Managers. However, the topics and content of the study manual have been reorganised, modified or added based on the revised syllabus. Hence, the materials for Paper1 and Paper 2 examinations will not be separately located in discrete topics as the current version. Instead, they will be scattered among different topics with clear indication.

When is the effective date?

The revised study manual is expected to be published in April 2021 and the examinations based on this new study manual will tentatively be effective from June 2021 onward. HKSI Institute and CGSE will provide more updated information around Feb 2021.

Current and potential GSQE candidates

The last examinations based on the current version study manual would be held in March 2021. Current candidates, i.e. those have passed either Paper 1 or Paper 2, can choose to complete the other paper either taking the March examination or the revised version afterward.  The examination result of either paper taken under the current version will still be valid for 3 years, counting from the date of the examination, for the purpose of applying for registration in CGSE.

To be awarded the HKSI Institute Certificates, candidates must complete the corresponding training course(s) before taking examination(s) and pass the corresponding current / revised examination(s) within two years from the date of the first class of training course. Nevertheless, completion of the training courses is not a necessary requirement for the registration in CGSE.
