MPFA's Consultation Conclusion on "Core Fund" published

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (“MPFA”) published the consultation conclusion on the proposal to introduce a “core fund” (now named as "default investment strategy") as the standardized low fee default fund of all Mandatory Provident Fund (“MPF”) schemes for enhancing the regulation of default arrangements in the MPF schemes. The HKSI Institute welcomes the Manpower Training Initiative for the Financial Services Industry announced by the Financial Secretary

The Government will allocate HK$100 million to launch a three-year pilot scheme for insurance and asset and wealth management services for talent and continuous professional development. SFC issued a new FAQ for authorized funds under Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect

On 22 September 2014, the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) issued a new FAQ 19 on the Post Authorization Compliance Issues of SFC-authorized Unit Trusts and Mutual Funds regarding Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect.

Levies in HKEx's markets to be reduced from 1 November 2014

With effect on 1 November 2014, transaction levies collected by Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited ("HKEx") on behalf of the Securities and Futures Commission will be reduced. For details, please refer to the press release of HKEx.

Revised Code on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REIT Code)

Please be informed that the revised REIT Code is now effective as gazetted on 29 August 2014. Amendments to the REIT Code were made to implement proposals to give real estate investment trusts the flexibility to invest in property development activities and financial instruments. SFC reprimanded Citigroup Global Markets Asia Limited (“Citigroup”) for its algorithmic trading which resulted in undue stock price movements.
