Press Conference on Launch of HKSI Professional Diploma in Financial Market (PDFM) in Mainland Held at ECNU
On the morning of May 8, the press conference on launch of HKSI Professional Diploma in Financial Market (PDFM) in the Mainland
was held at East China Normal University (ECNU). At the conference, speeches were delivered by Professor Wang Xiaoming,
Vice President of ECNU; Dr Au King-lun, Chairman of HKSI and Director & Head of Institutional Business, Asia Pacific, HSBC Investments
(HK) Ltd; Mr Gary Cheung, Chief Executive of HKSI; and Dr Lee, Jane C.Y., Deputy Director of HKU SPACE. An overview
on the launch of the PDFM programme in the
Mainland was presented by Mr Roger Lee, Senior Vice President of Listing Division, Hong Kong Exchanges &
Clearing Ltd and Professor Lan Faqin, Deputy Director of ECNU¡¦s School of Finance & Statistics. The press conference was presided over by
Dr Yue Hua, Party Secretary of ECNU¡¦s School of Finance & Statistics. The conference was attended by many practitioners in the securities,
banking and fund management sectors. After the conference, Ms Barbara Wang, HKSI Professional Education Committee Member,
shared with participants on the topic ¡§Insights of Global Fund Managers on China¡¦s Capital Market¡¨, which was well received.
The success of this press conference indicates that under the framework of the
¡§Supplementary Agreements of the Mainland and Hong Kong Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement¡¨
(CEPA), ECNU, HKU and HKSI will be able to leverage their respective strengths to promote PDFM jointly in
the Mainland. ECNU is the first university in the Mainland to provide training and examinations for PDFM.
Recently, China Securities Regulatory Commission has allowed domestic fund management companies to set up offices
in Hong Kong. This development has provided a good opportunity for the three parties to launch the PDFM programme
and examination together. Mainland practitioners
holding PDFM qualification may apply for a licence
to practise in Hong Kong according to the Hong Kong
Securities and Futures Commission's rules and
regulations. This will further promote exchanges and cooperation
between Shanghai and Hong Kong in international finance, groom talents for the launch of the "through train" scheme,
facilitate the outbound expansion of Chinese financial institutions, and promote the globalisation of China¡¦s capital market.
