HKSI celebrates its 10th
Anniversary
Tapping the brains for the next decade of success
The Hong Kong Securities Institute (HKSI) is pleased
to announce a celebration of its first decade of
service to the Hong Kong finance industry. Since its
establishment in 1997, the HKSI has been dedicated
to raising the professional standards of market
professionals. Prominent business leaders gathered
at a Gala Dinner last night where the guest of
honour Mr Peter Grauer, Chairman of Bloomberg,
helped commemorate the occasion. Mr Grauer¡¦s speech
on ¡§Optimism and Innovation from Wall Street to the
Great Wall¡¨ won several rounds of applause from all
the guests.
Induction of HKSI Hon Fellow and Fellows
During the event, Dr Au King-lun, Chairman of the
HKSI, formally inducted Mr Gordon Jones, JP as a
HKSI Honorary Fellow for 2007. Mr Jones has recently
retired from the Registrar of Companies after
serving the Hong Kong government for 34 years. The
HKSI Honorary Fellowship is intended for individuals
who have made a significant contribution to the
development of the finance community.
Dr Au
explained, ¡§Appointed as the Registrar of Companies
in 1993, Mr Jones played a key role in the Overall
Review of the Companies Ordinance and the Corporate
Governance Review by the Standing Committee on
Company Law Reform. He was one of the key figures in
getting the rewrite of the new Companies Ordinance
up and running. It is an honour to have Mr Jones as
a HKSI Honorary Fellow for 2007.¡¨
It is Mr
Jones¡¦ work in enhancing the territory¡¦s corporate
infrastructure, plus his strong support and active
participation in raising the standards of Corporate
Governance that lead the HKSI awarding him the title
of Honorary Fellow ¡V only the third such award in
its 10 year history. With raising the level of
professionalism among practitioners in Hong Kong¡¦s
finance sector a key policy of the HKSI, Mr Jones
exemplifies a standard to which all should strive.
Mr Jones said,
¡§I didn¡¦t realise until after I was invited that I¡¦m
only the third Honorary Fellow. The other two are
Sir QW Lee and Mr Charles Lee, two very prominent
members of the local community and of course, very
heavily involved in the securities industry. I¡¦m
very honoured.¡¨
In recognition of members¡¦ significant contribution
to the development of the industry and Institute,
eight Ordinary Members were inducted as HKSI Fellows
during the same occasion. They are Miss Angelina
Kwan; Mr Kwan Pak-chung, Edward; Mr Li Ming-kit; Mr
Craig Lindsay; Mr Shing Shin-cheung, Stewart; Mr
Sivagnana Ponnambalam Singham; Mr Tsui Yiu-wa, Alec;
and Mr Richard Winter.
Mr Gary Cheung, HKSI Chief Executive, said, ¡§Since
its inception, the Institute has gained tremendous
support from the industry and the members. We hope
that the newly inducted Fellows continue to support
our work in leading the industry to new heights.¡¨
The next decade
At the Gala Dinner Dr Au told the audience that the
HKSI, being a membership organisation, is able to
provide a platform for professionals wanting to
network, and exchange ideas and information with
like-minded individuals. Over the years the profile
of its membership may have changed, but the
integrity and professionalism has always remained
intact. Dr Au concluded, ¡§Going forward into the
next decade, HKSI will continue in its commitment to
serve and contribute to the finance industry.
Continued cross-border and global cooperation
through visits, networking exchanges and educational
opportunities is a clearly a priority for us.
Introducing world-class training and providing more
opportunities to achieve professional qualifications
is also essential for the continued success of Hong
Kong as an international finance centre.¡¨
