China's banking system has undergone a massive transformation ahead of opening up fully to foreign competition at the beginning of 2007 under its World Trade Organization commitments. This issue, entitled ¡§China Calling ¡V Banking Sector in Focus¡¨, will look at the various challenges & concerns facing China banking sector.

Mr Brian Ranson, Managing Director of Credit Strategies Group of Moody's KMV; Mr Shi Lui, Analyst of Tian Xiang Securities; Mr Johnson Chng, Vice President and Director of The Boston Consulting Group; Ms Yuan Lin, Analyst of China Financials at BOCI; Mr William Han, Head of Research of Financials at GTJA-Allianz, Allianz China JV talked to the journal and shared their opinions and concerns in the cover stories.


At the Autumn Dinner on 9 October 2006, veteran banker Dr the Honorable Lee Quo-Wei, GMB, JP, was given the Institute's most prestigious award and formally inducted as an HKSI Honorary Fellow for 2006. In the Interview column, he shares with members the secret of his success.

After years of piece-meal rules in an attempt to cool the property market, China's central authorities recently took a significant step in curbing soaring real-estate prices. The measures are also an attempt to discourage speculators and bring a level of affordable housing to the market. In the Feature column, Mr Andrew Ness, Executive Director, CBRE Research, Asia shares his views and in-depth analysis on the trends of China property market.
