The Legislative Council has given its approval for the Government to commence its ambitious plans to issue new bonds and give a boost to Hong Kong¡¦s bond market. This issue will look at the programme and the challenges ahead.

Following the financial tsunami, buyers of distressed debt expected to see many opportunities for bargains to emerge. This issue will look at the many risks involved.

Mark-to-market accounting has come under close scrutiny since the global financial crisis last year. As financial services firms discovered, many securities on their balance sheets became difficult to value when the markets their price was based on turn dysfunctional.

Other articles include: a regulatory update on China¡¦s Taxation Framework; a market update on the Japanese Equity Market; and a feature on the steps for retrenched practitioners to bounce back.
