LE Paper 1 in Nov 2006

The pass rate of LE Paper 1 held on 25 Nov 2006 was 53%. Figures 1 and 2 show the distribution by scores of the exam results and the overall topical correctness¹ achieved in the examination.

The correctness rates of LE Paper 1 remain relatively volatile. The correctness rate of Topic 9 (Market Misconduct, Improper Trading Practices and Compliance), having declined to a record low of 59 per cent in October, improved significantly to a record high of 88 per cent in November. However, the correctness rate of Topic 1 (Regulatory Overview of the Hong Kong Financial Industry) recorded an equally marked decline from 78 per cent in October to a record low of 58 per cent in November, while the correctness rates of Topic 3 (The Securities and Futures Ordinance) and Topic 4 (Licensing and Subsidiary Legislation) also dropped sharply.

Our analysis shows that three subject areas in Topics 1, 3 and 7 listed in Table 2 below were particularly weak and indicates the topics/sections in the Study Manual which candidates should read when revising for these subject areas.
