Examination Results Statistics for LE Papers 1, 2 and 6 in August 2005

LE Paper 1 in Aug 2005

The pass rate of Paper 1 held on 27 Aug 2005 was 57%. Figures 1 and 2 show the distribution by scores of the exam results and the overall topical correctness¹ achieved in the examination.

As shown in Table 1, when compared with the correctness rates of the previous month, candidates' performance in Topic 5 (Business Conduct and Client Relations) shows a noticeable improvement while candidates' performance in Topic 4 (Licensing and Subsidiary Legislation) shows a marked decline. Candidates' performance in Topic 7 (Securities, Options and Futures), on average, remains the weakest among the 9 topics in LE Paper 1.

Table 2 shows the subject areas in which candidates performed unsatisfactorily in the Aug 2005 exam and the topics/sections in the Study Manual which cover these subject areas.

Candidates should take note that subject areas 1 "Features of different forms of share capital" and 3 "Participants of the exchanges and clearing houses" listed above were also classified as unsatisfactory subject areas in both the June and July 2005 exams and are advised to pay special attention to these two subject areas.

LE Paper 2 in Aug 2005

The pass rate of LE Paper 2 held on 27 Aug 2005 was 54%. Figures 3 and 4 show the distribution by scores of the exam results and the overall topical correctness achieved in the examination.

As indicated in Table 3, the two topics in which candidates performed unsatisfactorily in the July 2005 exam, Topics 6 (Options and OTC Derivatives) and 7 (Market Misconduct and Offences), show much improved correctness rates this month.

Table 4 shows the subject areas in which candidates performed unsatisfactorily in the Aug 2005 exam and the topics/sections in the Study Manual which cover these subject areas.
