Bank Treasury Management - Part 2

Bank Treasury Management - Part 2

Overview

This tutorial is an introduction to the increasingly complex world of asset and liability management (ALM). ALM is the process of controlling some of the many risks faced by financial institutions, particularly commercial banks. As such, the performance of the ALM function is fundamental to a bank's ability to thrive in different economic environments. A well-run ALM operation improves the reputation of an organization and should identify profitable opportunities with a balanced division of risk and reward. This tutorial looks at the risks that need to be monitored by the ALM function and how the function is set up.

Objective

On completion of this tutorial, you will be able to:
- Explain which particular risks, faced by financial institutions, are monitored and managed by ALM units
- Describe broadly how these risks change with different instruments and how they are identified
