HKSI Links to Other Professional Associations

As a leading professional body participating in a global market place, the Institute understands the importance of developing business ties with other global professional associations.  Since its inception, the Institute has developed strong relationships with a number of foreign securities associations including;

Asian Securities Analysts Federation
The Asian Securities Analysts Federation (ASAF) was established to promote the interests of the investment community of Asia and Oceania and to encourage and assist the development of the profession of securities analysts through the interchange of ideas and co-ordination of policy among member societies.

The HKSI is an active member of ASAF and in December 2001 hosted the regional ASAF conference.  The Institute regularly receives updates on regional trends in the securities analysts industry through the ASAF Newsletter which can be accessed on www.asaf.org.au

ACIIAâ
Through our association with ASAF, the Institute has become a member of the Association of Certified International Investment Analysts (ACIIA®).  This is the professional association responsible for the development of the CIIA® examinations, an internationally recognised advanced professional qualification for individuals working in the finance and investment industry.  For more details on these examinations, please refer to our examination home page.

Securities Association of China
The Securities Association of China (SAC) is a professional body for securities market professionals in Mainland China. The SAC, instructed and supervised by the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC), is responsible for the organisation and the administration of the securities industry qualifications examinations for Mainland China. In January 2004 the HKSI was assigned by the SAC as the sole agent for the enrolment of Hong Kong professionals for the Mainland China regulatory examination held in Shenzhen in March 2004.  The HKSI is involved in on-going discussions with the SAC regarding both training and examination opportunities in the future.

Securities & Investment Institute (Formerly known as Securities Institute of United Kingdom)
The Securities & Investment Institute (SII) recognises HKSI Ordinary Membership as a relevant "overseas" qualification for admission as a member of SII.

International Recognition of HKSI Examinations

Both the Licensing Examination for Securities and Futures Intermediaries (LE) and the HKSI Diploma Programme Examination (DPE) have been recognised by international regulatory bodies and professional associations.

SII - IAQ Programme
LE Paper 1 is recognised as a suitable replacement of the SII IAQ regulatory unit. The IAQ is awarded on the completion of 3 IAQ units. HKSI individual members or market practitioners who have successfully completed the LE Paper 1 are required to take only 2 IAQ units to attain the certification.

Investment Dealers Association of Canada (IDA)
Applicants wishing to practise in the securities industry in Canada who provide proof of passing LE Papers 1, 7 and 8 or who were licensed in Hong Kong through completion of the DPE need only pass the New Entrants Course of the Canadian Securities Institute (CSI) to be exempted from writing the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) and the Conduct and Practices Handbook Examination (CPH).

Certified International Investment Analyst (CIIAâ)
HKSI members who are also graduates of the DPE are able to attain a globally recognised qualification, that of CIIA awarded by the Association of Certified International Investment Analysts (ACIIA®).  Since the DPE has been accredited by the ACIIA®, its graduates may, so long as they are members of the HKSI, proceed directly to the CIIA® Final Examination which is offered by the HKSI in Hong Kong, and are exempted from taking the CIIA® Foundation Examination and National Examination.

Curtin University of Technology, Australia
The DPE has been accredited by Curtin University of Technology, Australia. DPE graduates are eligible for admission to
Curtin's Master of Finance programme with three subjects, namely Finance (Statement Analysis), Finance (Instruments and Markets) and Finance (Portfolio Management), exempted.  This programme is currently offered in Hong Kong through Curtin's collaboration with the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK).

LOMA (Life Office Management Association, Inc.)
LOMA is an international association through which more than 1,250 insurance and financial services companies from over 70 countries engage in research and educational activities to improve company operations. LOMA has recognised LE Papers 1, 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 and the DPE for Professional Achievement Credits (PACs) in its Fellow, Financial Services Institute (FFSI) Program.

Napier University, Scotland
The DPE has been recognised by Napier University, Scotland.  DPE Registered Students who have passed DPE Papers 1 and 3 are eligible for entry to Level 4 of Napier's BA (Hons) Financial Services programme.  This programme is currently offered in Hong Kong through Napier's collaboration with the Hong Kong University School of Professional and Continuing Education (HKU SPACE).
